Why does Caffeine disrupt sleep?
Our body follows the circadian system and have a natural wake sleep pattern. The cells in our body are made to follow the circadian rhythm to regulate the sleep wake cycle which repeats every 24 hours.
Body cells begin to prepare for rest after 6PM. After 9PM body starts to release hormones which are needed to sleep well. Intake of caffeine lengthens the circadian period. When you drink coffee, the caffeine binds to the cells and makes the cells more active. Cells are put back to work which gives you a good energetic feeling. That's why everyone loves coffee, but this disrupts the circadian system and hence your sleep.
Caffeine should at a minimum be restricted to before 17:00
